UNITED
STATES MARINE CORPS
OFFICER SELECTION STATION AMHERST
|
Becoming a Marine Officer is more than a career choice. It is a bold statement of intent. As a Marine Officer, you will be trained specifically to lead and inspire. You will earn the opportunity to generate real change at a point in your life when most of your peers are still searching for purpose. You will shoulder the great responsibility of directly ensuring our nation's future. As a Marine Officer, you will be entrusted by the United States of America to make sound decisions in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, ensuring not only mission success but also the well-being of the Marines under your command. There is no greater path of distinction, and no better way to test your mental and physical limits, then becoming a Marine Officer.
Unlike the Army, Air Force and Navy, the Marine Corps does not have it's own service academies. We prefer to locate potential leaders among America's colleges and universities.
Our officer programs are designed to bring out your very best, by putting you through the most rigorous training and evaluation program that you will ever endure. You will face many obstacles, numerous mental and physical challenges, and when you feel that you cannot go any further, that is when you will find the strength and mental fortitude to go beyond your limitations.
As a college student, you can begin your path towards a commission through the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC). Your training will take place during the summer in-between your Sophomore and Junior year, or between your Junior and Senior year. If you are a Sophomore, you will attend two six-week summer training increments. Juniors will attend one ten-week summer training increment.
For college seniors and graduates you will begin your path towards a commission through the Officer Candidate Course. Your training will take place in a one ten-week training session, either during the Summer, Fall or Winter.
