Becoming a Marine Officer is more than a career choice. It is a bold statement of intent. As a Marine Officer, you will be trained specifically to lead and inspire. You will earn the opportunity to generate real change at a point in your life when most of your peers are still searching for purpose. You will shoulder the great responsibility of directly ensuring our nation's future. As a Marine Officer, you will be entrusted by the United States of America to make sound decisions in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, ensuring not only mission success but also the well-being of the Marines under your command. There is no greater path of distinction, and no better way to test your mental and physical limits, than becoming a Marine Officer.
The Officer Candidates Course (OCC) is a demanding ten-week commissioning program for college seniors and graduates who are seeking to become Marine Officers. The journey begins at Officer Candidates School (OCS) - the physical and mental proving ground for those who want to lead Marines. Designed to screen and evaluate officer candidates to determine if they have the leadership potential to serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, OCS proves there are no shortcuts to becoming one. During OCS, your instructors will put your leadership skills, academic abilities and physical fitness to the test. Complete this grueling challenge and you will earn something most will never attain - a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
The journey to becoming a Marine Officer is intentionally difficult. It has to be, as it prepares young men and women to lead under any condition. The challenges you will face focus on two profound responsibilities: accomplishing your mission and ensuring the welfare of the Marines you lead. To earn a commission as a Marine Officer, you must excel at both.
